Statistics on cobalt and nickel for batteries
Cobalt: Testament to its importance in the market, the Chinese battery manufacturer CATL consumed 21% of the world's cobalt supply in 2019. The five main manufacturers absorbed
78% of global supply (up from 69% in 2018)

In 2019, CATL surpassed the previous year's leader, LG Chem. BYD entered the top 5 for the first time. Thus, whoever holds the cobalt wins the war for battery supremacy
Nickel:In 2019, Panasonic is the world's leading user of nickel with 51% of demand, followed by CATL (15%) and LG Chem (12%). Panasonic uses 60% of its nickel in NCA batteries (for Tesla vehicles) and 39% in NiMH batteries for Toyota's hybrid vehicles
Tesla uses NCA batteries while the Chinese use NCM batteries, reflecting a different nickel consumption. All manufacturers are trying to produce cobalt-free batteries.
